Beautifully handcrafted in Italy, this unfinished rose-hued pot and saucer is part of Bergs Potter’s historic Copenhagen Collection. The signature design of the Copenhagen collection is the fine scallop detailing along top of the pot, with an elegant second accenting row. Each pot has also been meticulously crafted by hand, rendering each piece unique.
Named the “Castle Pot” after a pot made at Denmark’s Frederiksborg Castle in 1860, the pot design grew in popularity in Copenhagan in the 1960s after production moved to smaller potters in the city. Steffen Berg found his inspiration from a beautiful pot he saw years ago in a former nursery. Today, potters make the pot in a small village near Lucca, Tuscany.
The clay used in the Copenhagen Collection is fired at very high temperatures, giving the pots a natural durability. As this pot is unfinished, water will temporarily darken the clay when watered. This helps keep plants hydrated, and the pot will dry back to its original colour.
Please note: as each piece is handcrafted, there will be natural variations in tone, texture, and finishing between pots. Also, as terracotta/clay is porous, water will seep to the exterior of the pot, however this is a normal and desired feature in unfinished terracotta pottery! The water spots will dry as it evaporates.
